In instances of severe tooth decay in children, Dr. Amirreza Rafaat and Dr. Sanin Emelee may recommend that the child receive a pulpotomy to restore the tooth to full health. Pulpotomies are an endodontic treatment that is similar to root canal therapy. At Herndon Smile Design, we don’t perform traditional root canals on children. For some of our young patients’ parents, the thought of having their child experience an endodontic treatment can be distressing. At Herndon Smile Design, we can perform these treatments safely and comfortably, so we can return your child’s smile to its full health.
During this procedure, our dentists will remove decay from the pulp chamber in the tooth. The area will be sterilized, removing further bacteria and signs of decay. After these steps have been completed, we may need to place a dental crown on the treated area. We have several dental crown options at Herndon Smile Design to help your child have a healthy, functional smile.
If your child needs a pulpotomy in Herndon, Virginia, our dentists will perform the procedure with care and gentleness so it can be as comfortable as possible. If you have questions about this procedure, please call our office at 703-464-0000. We would be happy to discuss the details of the procedure with you.
