Understandably, many of our patients worry about the possibility of ever developing cancer. The process of treating cancer can be uncomfortable and heartbreaking to watch. Luckily, when detected early, cancer is much easier and more effective to treat. During your regularly scheduled six-month examinations, our dentists may perform an oral cancer screening to check your oral cavity for signs of abnormalities. In addition to a standard inspection, we use VELscope to perform an additional check. VELscope is not invasive but can help to keep you healthy.
VELscope technology stimulates the cells in the mouth with a blue light that helps to detect changes in the tissues of the mouth. This tool is beneficial in helping our dentists and team to find abnormalities that are not visible to the naked eye.
VELscope doesn’t diagnose cancer. It is a tool that can assist in promoting preventive care and the early detection of abnormalities in the mouth.
